Steve Wilkos forced other drivers to swerve off-road as he sped, flipped SUV over and crashed into pole: Police [UPDATE]
New details emerged regarding the January 21 DUI incident involving talk show host and former bodyguard Steve Wilkos, who’s accused of drinking and driving.
According to TMZ, 53-year-old Wilkos forced other drives off of the road as he sped down a normally quiet West Avenue in Darien, Connecticut, street in his SUV. Witnesses said at least two other drivers pulled their vehicles to the side of the road as a drunken Wilkos plowed down the street. The incident ended when the talk show host flipped his SUV and crashed into a pole and trees.

One of the witnesses told authorities that they heard a “big boom and saw the power lines shake.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, police didn’t immediately arrest the Wilkos after the incident, but rather, he turned himself in a few days later after learning there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Prior to turning himself in, Wilkos was transported to local hospital for minor injuries after flipping his car while hitting several poles and a tree in the process. Medical professionals gave Wilkos a blood alcohol test, which reportedly registered at .29%. Police later obtained the suspect’s medical records as part of the investigation.
Wilkos reportedly admitted that he was reaching for his glasses when the accident occurred. He reportedly said that he’s been battling depression for most of his life, which apparently led to drinking.
“Over the course of my life, I have been struggling with bouts of depression and on the day of my accident, I had a complete lapse in judgment which resulted in me drinking and getting behind the wheel of my car.”
“This experience reinforces my commitment to get the professional help that I need and I have recently completed an intensive medically supervised program,” Wilkos continued.
Wilkos’ next hearing is scheduled for March 5 at the Stamford Superior Court. Check back with CrimeOnline as additional details become available.
