Bus driver fails sobriety test with kids on board, blames erratic driving on eating a bad doughnut: Cops
Authorities in Texas say a woman has been arrested for driving a school bus while intoxicated while children were on board.
According to Fox News, 55-year-old Linda Sue Godejohn allegedly attracted the attention of witnesses as she drove in Spring on Thursday afternoon, weaving and striking a divider.
One witness recalled that “it wasn’t just a little tap, she was on the wall, the tire started to crawl up on the wall.”
Concerned onlookers contacted authorities, reporting that she was driving in an erratic manner. Police say she “flunked miserably” when responding officers administered a field sobriety test.
Speaking from behind bars in her own defense, however, the bus driver had an unusual alibi.
“My stomach was just hurting so bad that a wheel fell off the thing, the curb,” she said. “That’s all it was, and going 45 miles per hour, it’s going to whip back.”
Reports indicate she told police she hadn’t touched alcohol in years, theorizing that a bad doughnut eaten earlier in the day must have caused her unsafe driving.
As for the sobriety test, she described it as “hard,” claiming that she “couldn’t even do it right now.”
Harris County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Sean Teare noted that prosecutors are awaiting the results of a blood test to determine what caused her impairment.
“We discovered that one of the children on the bus was under the age of 14, which triggers a higher charge, a felony charge for DWI,” he added.
Godejohn was reportedly released from jail after posting $100 bond.
