Authorities in California say three of four suspects in a foiled kidnapping attempt are behind bars and the victim is safe.

According to the Farmington Daily Times, a man was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday by three men and a woman who brandished multiple weapons while forcing him into their car.

The suspects went on to hold him with the intention of inflicting some type of retribution by leaving him stranded “in the hills,” police reports claim.

At some point during the scheme, however, investigators believe the criminal crew got a craving for beer and stopped at a store along the way. The victim was reportedly able to escape and report the incident to authorities.

Suspects were later identified as Danuel Fountain, Emma Hossy, William Herrera, and Lewis Gutierrez.

All but Hossy had been arrested as of the latest updates available. They are expected to face criminal charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery.

Hossy, who was allegedly driving, is reportedly the subject of an arrest warrant out of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

Police believe she set him up after he fell asleep in her car and he reported waking up surrounded by the other three suspects, who beat him up.

For his part, Herrera reportedly told investigators that Hossy showed up at a residence to tell him and Gutierrez that she had been attacked by the victim. He said he then went to a nearby home to enlist Fountain in their payback plot.
