Police question American tourist’s claims of brutal attack in Dominican Republic
Police in the Dominican Republic are reportedly questioning the claims made by an American tourists that she was brutally attacked by a man in a hotel worker uniform during a January vacation to the Dominican Republic.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Tammy Lawrence-Daley of Delaware said she was assaulted at the Majestic Elegance resort in Punta Cana when she was attacked in the hotel after she left her room to get a snack. In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Lawrence-Daley said that she was left for dead for eight hours until she was finally rescued, and that she had lost consciousness multiple times during the beating as the assailant allegedly strangled her.
She also shared photos showing severe injuries to her face.
Lawrence-Daley reportedly told the Associated Press that she could only see her assailant when he was strangling her and could not identify him beyond his Majestic Elegance uniform.
“And when I tried to look up I couldn’t just because I was passing out at that point,” she said.
Lawrence-Daley reportedly tried to pursue a claim against the resort, but an insurance company said the hotel was not liable because she could not positively identify the alleged attacker and there was not enough evidence he was an employee of Majestic Elegance.
According to CBS News, Dominican Republic Police spokesman Col. Frank Durán said that authorities went to the hospital here Lawrence-Daley was being treated immediately after the reported attack.
“There is a lot of conjecture about the case, a lot of information that doesn’t match some of the statements,” Durán reportedly said on Friday. “We have to wait for the investigation to end.”
As CBS News reports, the resort declined to comment, out of respect for Lawrence-Daley’s “dignity and integrity.”
