Stepmom douses 5-year-old girl with rubbing alcohol before setting her face ablaze, cops say
Authorities in Texas say a woman has been arrested on suspicion of burning her young stepdaughter in an incident earlier this month.
According to the New York Post, 20-year-old Dalia Jimenez was arrested after police responded to a Grand Prairie residence on May 13 in response to the report of a burned child at the location requiring medical assistance.
Upon their arrival, officers interviewed Jimenez, who at first reportedly tried to blame the girl’s injuries on an candle-related accident. After police say they identifying holes in her story, though, she allegedly admitted she burned the girl’s face because the young victim had been yelling.
As for the child’s father, police say he wasn’t at home at the time of the abusive act and is not considered a suspect in connection with her injuries.
Investigators believe Jimenez applied rubbing alcohol to the child’s face before using a lighter to set it on fire, as reported by WTVR.
An investigation led police to charge her with criminal counts including injury to a child — a felony. As of the latest updates available, she had been released from jail after posting $20,000 bond.
Both the girl and her younger sibling were reportedly removed from the home and placed in the care of family members.
